A Tim Horton's location fired an employee after she gave a small bite sized donut worth 16 cents to a toddler. Their reasoning was that she was "giving away" their product. The employee, a single mother of four, was fired on the spot. After the employee went to the media, Tim Horton's was forced to take her back.
She chose to return to work at Tim Horton's but at a different location.
I think this is a terrible business ethic. I see nothing wrong with giving something that's worth so little away. It makes the customer (I assume there was a parent with that child) think the company is a good company and increases their chances of returning. I see nothing wrong with what the employee did.

You know when I was little *not so long ago* we used to get a free cookie every time we went to the grocery store. They only did it for the kids and usually the parents from what I could tell would tell the kids they'd get their cookie IF they were good while shopping. Its a freakin donut who cares, damn if they're that concerned dock her pay the .16 but firing her is just mean. I would have gone back- if i had 4 kids as she did- but would have done as she did and went to a new location. Thing is EVERYONE knows her now because it was so public.
